Mullai periyar Dam….(120ft or 142 ft)

MullaiPeriyar Dam which is nearly 116 years old dam located in kerala now currently holds the water level of 136ft.But now the Kerala government creates a fear among the people that the dam is not so strong to hold the water level of 136ft therefore it should be reduced to 120ft.But the Tamilnadu Government opposes this stating that the dam is so strong that it can handle water level even up to 142ft to 152ft. Moreover water from the MullaiPeriyar Dam is enjoyed by the five districts in Tamilnadu namely Theni,Dindigul ,Ramanathapuram,Sivagangai and one more. If Kerala government suddenly creates such a fear among keralites then how will these districts in Tamilnadu be peacefull. If it stops providing services from Mullaiperiyar dam to Tamilnadu then electricity from NLC to Kerala can be stopped.Due to this there was a fight among keralites and tamilians. No state can be happy without the help from other state.Infact half the population of kerala are in Tamilnadu and in the district of “IDUKKI” in kerala the number of tamilians and keralites are equal. The safety engineers from kerala assured that dam is weak. But that result is a faulty one.The engineers from Tamilnadu and Central assured that ,the dam is safe enough to hold water level of 142ft to 152ft.Even Tamilnadu government has contributed some amount for strengthening of dam.Everything lies in the hands of central government in resolving these problems smoothly and to create a friendly relationship between two states. According to me the natural resoureces should be kept common. It should be effectively used and it has to be shared among others.
